Our Principles
They guide every decision we make
Because Soncoast is a Christ-centered publishing company, we have the following principles:
Principle One:
The Principle of Accountability.
No organization can function efficiently or effectively without accountability. Soncoast has committed itself to the highest standards of organizational and financial accountability. Jesus made the principle of accountability a basic premise of Kingdom life (see Matthew 25:14-30).
First, we are accountable to Jesus as Lord (see Acts 2:29-39; Romans 10:9; Philippians 2:5-11). We seek to operate under the Lordship of Jesus Christ! We believe God is both the originator and ultimate director of Soncoast Publishing. Apart from Him, our organization is bogus and useless in furthering the kingdom.
Second, we are accountable to God’s Word (2 Timothy 3:16). In the Bible, there is unerring guidance for how we treat our partners and how we conduct business. In all business endeavors, we seek to listen as He speaks, and do what He says! (Luke 6:46-49).
Third, we are accountable to you, our publishing partner. We will walk with you and attempt to represent you in a Christ-like manner through the entire publishing process. We seek to empower you to reach your maximum potential as an author. We offer you personal support, ideas, and feedback. Simply put, we are here for you. As we walk through this process with you, we are confident you will produce a successful book.
Principle Two:
The Principle of Adaptability.
When Jesus pointed out the foolishness of pouring new wine into old wineskins (Matthew 9:16-17), He was, at the same time, reminding us of two salient facts of life. On the one hand, things on earth are in a state of constant change. New seasons replace old ones, with new grapes and new wine. Then, on the other hand, we are reminded that it is wise and prudent from time to time to adapt to the realities of a life in flux by adjusting strategies for planting and harvesting to accommodate this change. Such adaptation, of course, must be guided by the biblical principle of accountability as stated above.
There are at least two considerations to be given to the need for a periodic review of our strategies.
One, there are cultural considerations. The Apostle Paul said, “I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some” (1 Corinthians 9:22). He was a student of the culture so that more people might be reached. Likewise, we want to be students of this world so that we can best promote each book that we publish. We help contextualize our marketing strategies so that more people can be influenced by the gospel.
Two, there are spiritual considerations. Although Soncoast is seeking to utilize the most up-to-date marketing strategies, we always attempt to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit in seeking His direction in any strategy. Not to over-spiritualize our company, but we believe prayer is a crucial element in the success of any book. We understand that unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain (Psalm 127:1). Our prayer is that God will provide each of our authors a wide door of effective ministry in furthering Jesus Christ.
Principle Three:
The Principle of Affordability.
Even though Soncoast Publishing is a for-profit-organization, our goal is not money. In fact, in our first organizational meeting, we agreed our purpose is to further the kingdom of God through Christian books. Therefore, we desire to make our publishing as affordable as possible so that your dreams may become a book that changes the world! At the same time, we are driven by the belief that whatever God leads His people to do, or wherever He leads them to go, He will provide the resources to do it (Philippians 4:21). In other words, God has the resources to make your dream a reality! Prayerfully consider submitting your manuscript to Soncoast Publishing. To God alone receive all the glory!
